Game release and small update
Thank you so much for giving this game an incredible launch day! With 35 downloads and 4 five-star ratings in the first 24 hours following release, this may well be my most successful launch so far.
I just updated the game to fix a minor bug I spotted in this playthrough. I tried to test all the possible outcomes of the game as I was implementing them, but due to the limited time frame of the game jam I might have missed some things, which I will promptly fix with updates.
Returning to our house
I originally came up with the concept of this game in high school, but I felt like I was too busy working on Absolution, my main project at the time, to distract myself with side projects. I never wrote this idea down or told anyone about it, then forgot about it for years. Eventually, I cancelled Absolution and decided to pivot away from visual novels and gamedev as a whole, at least for some time.
Now, having finished a few small TTRPG projects and with a Kickstarter coming soon, I felt like I had some free time for side projects. The Fix Your Hearts or Die game jam came at just the right time to remind me of this small game idea I once had, now expanded upon with references to "Lost Highway" (1997) and other horror movies and games I was previously unfamiliar with.
The original concept for this game featured five scenes, of which three are in the current build of the game. I felt like this would be a good cutoff point for a standalone game, though admittedly many questions remain unanswered. This is partially by design, and partially because the latter part of the game would have answered some of them (and opened up plenty of new ones).
All this to say, I'd like to eventually expand upon this game with a major update to add the remaining story and possibly polish the content already in it with updated music and graphics. I've learned not to promise anything when it comes to game development, but I'm hoping to finalize this project around summer of this year, provided that the incredible support I've received so far continues into the next few months.
That's all for now. If you enjoyed the game, don't forget to give it a rating, review, or comment on the game's page. You can also follow me here on itch.io or on Bluesky for any and all updates on my projects.
